Mika Abele is an emerging ceramicist and painter working on traditional, unceded and stolen Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh territory. Drawing inspiration from natural spaces, Mika’s work explores our body’s connection to the natural world.
Often working directly with her environment, Mika collects wild clays, materials, textures or impressions in order to capture illusive sensory information – such as sound, touch or sensation – into art objects. Also exploring magical realism as a framework for unlearning, Mika’s often whimsical work aims to connect people with their environment through imagination.
